But in the case of Sweetest Day, its humble beginnings come from one of the very sweetest things you can do  - give candy to someone who is having a rough time. In the early 1900's, a group of candy executives got together and donated approximately 26,000 boxes of chocolates and other sweet treats to widows, orphans, and shut-ins.
