If you're hosting Thanksgiving this year, you're going to need some flowers.
Maybe you expected us to say "turkey, sides and a flat screen with football queued up," but allow us at Blossom Flower Shops to direct your attention elsewhere. Specifically, toward a drop-dead gorgeous centerpiece, which should sit proudly at the heart of your dining table for all to see and enjoy. That's a tall order, we know. So you're going somewhere else for Thanksgiving. You're in good company. Nearly 50 million people traveled 50 miles or more to break bread at someone else's table last Thanksgiving in the U.S. And while you may be transporting an item for the table if you're driving - or just yourself if you're flying - one thing's for sure: a host or hostess gift is in order.
At Blossom Flower Shops, we're not going to talk you down from the instinct to bring or send flowers. Certainly, a beautiful display of blooms makes a fresh and vital point about your gratitude. On the other hand, in these cold months, something a little more green (and a little more accommodating to all tastes and preferences) might be just the thing. On November 11, 1919, President Woodrow Wilson made the first official statement about Veterans Day, which was then known as "Armistice Day" because it commemorated the resolution of WWI a year earlier. In it, he described the U.S. as being "filled with solemn pride in the heroism of those who died in the country's service" and called the victory an opportunity for America "to show her sympathy with peace and justice in the councils of nations."
Since then, Veterans Day has been a time to shower our vets with honor and gratitude, a thing we at Blossom Flower Shops know a little about. And yes, we do have the perfect piece for Veterans Day. Read More about The Perfect Piece for Veterans Day »

The origins of holidays and observances are often very different than you might expect. But in the case of Sweetest Day, its humble beginnings come from one of the very sweetest things you can do - give candy to someone who is having a rough time.
In the early 1900's, a group of candy executives got together and donated approximately 26,000 boxes of chocolates and other sweet treats to widows, orphans, and shut-ins. The publicity stunt was presented as a new yearly event, but cynics noted that it was little more than the companies looking to establish a new holiday which benefited their pocketbooks. Regardless of intentions, the Sweetest Day is still observed over 100 years later, especially in the Midwest and Northeast. However, the modern version entails doing anything nice for someone who may need support and encouragement. Blossom Flowers Shops has the flowers, candy & gift ideas you'll need to lift their spirits. Read More about Sweet Gestures on Sweetest Day »

It is estimated that we spend between 25% and 35% of love's waking hours working. With such a large portion of our existence involving the workplace, it is easy to see why a great boss can make such a huge difference. In 1958, Chicago State Farm Insurance employee Patricia Bays Haroski was so inspired by her boss that she petitioned the government to set aside October 16 (her dad's birthday) as a day to recognize supervisors and employers who were doing a great job; in 1962, Illinois governor Otto Kerner made it official.
At Blossom Flower Shops, we help you year-round in recognizing amazing people from Yonkers to White Plains. On National Boss's Day, we are here to help you to thank those leaders who make work a great place to be. Read More about Boss’s Day Plants & Gifts »
